Gilt Edged: Beauty Tips
Investing in gold is a good idea. The sensex loves it and so do we. A bit of yellow gold on the lids or a dirty gold on the lips can get your stocks soaring.
By Priyanka Bhattacharya. (Beauty Magazine)

It is a hue that starts doing the rounds as the season turns cooler, and our celebration garbs come out. Gold is a color that we Indian love and why not? It is a shade that complements our skin tone – fairest to the duskiest – beautifully. Makeup artists in India love to highlight the face, shoulders, decollete etc especially as you hit the festive party, and wedding circuit.

While too much of gold in your coffers is good news, but too much of it on your skin is definitely criminal. Subtlety is the key. Play with various texture and colours of gold – you can go matte or shimmery, clean or dirty, yellow or bronze gold

Bold gold lips
Gilded lips can kill your complexion if not worn with caution. Instead of a yellow gold hue choose a lipstick that has a darker bronze hint to it. Another way to wear a gold lipper is to apply a sheer peach or pink lipstick, and then dabbing a old lip gloss over it.

Bullion dollar cheeks: Cheek Tips
One of the easiest ways to brighten up your complexion – a dash of pearly gold blush on the apple of your cheeks. This season too you can play up your complexion with this shade. To add more contour to your face blend in a matte bronze gold blush in the hollow of your cheeks. Keep it elegant by avoiding gold anywhere else. Keep eyes neutral, and lips shaded with a matte brown or taupe lipstick.

Aureate lids: Eye Shadow
Gold best looks on the lids where it can make your eyes look vibrant without looking too obvious. For just a subtle glow take a sheer gold shadow and apply on your upper lid till just above the crease, and extend it slightly beyond the outer corner. Then apply the shadow on the lower lid close to the lashes. Then draw the upper and lower lash line with a thin dark liner preferably brown or bronze. Use two coats of mascara to open up the eyes. This is a great day look. Give a brighter turn to the gilt-lidded style by applying a yellow gold shadow on the center of your upper lashes till just above the rease. Blend in a circular motion and keep inside the outer corner of your eyes. For the smoky look apply an antique gold shadow all over the lid till the crease, and then blend in a bronze shadow from the crease to the outer corner, extending it lightly. Line the lower lashes with a bronze liner. Keep rest of the face pretty low key with a soft pink or nude gloss.

Magnificent Milk
Body Treatment with Milk
Mellissa Maccalla

Milk was doing: a body good long before it appeared on the upper lip of any health-conscious celebrity. When applied topically, milk calms irritation (it’s a natural anti-inflammatory), gently exfoliates (thanks to lactic acid), and moisturized new skin (the fat content increases water retention). According to cosmetic dermatologist Francesca Fusco, all types of milk of cow, soy, and goat have similar benefits, but whole milk is preferable to skim for beauty treatments because it contains more hydrating fat protections. Here’s how to use it

For reducing irritation and redness.
Fusco recommends filling a bowl with whole milk and ice, soaking a washcloth in the mixture, and then applying the cloth to the skin until the compress is no longer cold. Repeat three times and then allow skin to air dry.

For moisturizing dry or sum-damaged skin
Cleo London director and lead esthetician at Metamorphosis Day Spa in New York City, Suggests Freezing buttermilk in ice cube trays and then rubbing the cubes in your face.

For Creating a Full-Body soak in the cheep
Pick up a box of powdered whole milk, add enough to a bath to make the water a milky while, and soak you skin soft.

How much you Know about the condition of your scalp and hair? You can find out more through a scalp analysis by a trained technician or trichologist, who will help you pinpoint the treatments and products that will yield healthier, problem-free lock.

First, a special magnifying camera reveals not only what genetics gave you dryness, oiliness, dandruff, psoriasis, thinning hair but also the effects of chemical processing and your daily hair care routine. Even something as simple as product buildup can be a big problem, according to Ronald Williams of Phyto Universe in Manhattan.
Then, armed with this detailed information, the technician can design a customized treatment such as applying essential oils to moisturize a parched scalp and to use at home.
Valerie Marie Kemp, of J.F Lazartigue Hair Analysis Center in Manhattan, notes that it’s important to treat both your scalp and hair. “Of you have very fine hair and are using a volume shampoo all week, you are going to aggravate the oil glands in your scalp. “She Says. “You need to alternate with another shampoo to see better results”.
Hair and scalp analysts are usually free when getting a hair consultation or salon treatment; just ask your salon if it offers them.

Rain-forest solutions for dry hair
By SARAH STACEY (Beauty Magazine)
Flat Lackluster haystack-dry hair is one of the most common problems I get asked about. So I was intrigued when a reader wrote to me rhapsodizing about a hair care brand called Ojon, based on rare nut oil only found in the Central American rainforests of Honduras and Nicaragua. ‘My hair is very fine and looks quite thin, but using the Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment – a solid that turns into an oil when you warm it in your hands – plus the thickening shampoo and conditioner, has made it look thicker and very shiny. Even my hairdresser remarked what good condition it’s in.

My dry-haired colleague Victoria is a great fan too: ‘The best shampoo I’ve ever used,’ she told me. Recently, I met Denis Simioni, the ‘crazy Canadian’ founder of Ojon, who told me about the extraordinary genesis of the range. In 1999, a relative from Honduras brought Simioni, who was then heading an advertising agency near Toronto, a little jar of brown paste – the ojon oil. ‘It just sat in my bathroom until one hot Saturday, two years later, when the whole family decided to have a hair party and try it. We all had really dry hair, partly due to chemicals in the swimming pool. The results of just one application were instant – and incredible.’ It was the start of an Indiana Jones-like quest for Simioni to find the source of ojon oil. Through the internet, he discovered that ojon nuts have been used for more than
500 years by the Miskito Indians (whose nickname, Tawira, translates as ‘the people with beautiful hair’). Simioni flew to Tegucigalpa; the town where his original jar had been bought, chartered a single-propeller plane and after a five-hour flight landed on a dirt road in the jungle. A two-hour hike, followed by a five-hour trip alone in a wobbly, hand-carved canoe across a shark-infested lagoon, brought him to one of the Tawira villages. ‘I looked on the bank and saw a little girl in red shorts braiding a boy’s hair and thought, “This has to be it.” ’ About 200 villagers lined up to meet him. ‘They wore their hair up in buns,’ he says, ‘but when I asked about the Tawira name, they unraveled it for me and I saw the most beautiful hair – very long, healthy and hydrated. They’re the only indigenous group in that area that don’t [need to] wear hats. Instead they apply ojon oil daily, from the day a baby’s born – it’s their own intensive treatment.’ (Later, clinical trials showed that one 20-minute application of Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment dramatically improved the condition of dry, damaged hair by 52 per cent; if it’s left on overnight, the figure goes up to 64 per cent.) Over the next few years, Simioni trialed different formulas of ojon oil in Canada and established an enduring relationship with the Tawira and a local non-profit group, Mopawi, dedicated to promoting sustainable development. The nuts are still harvested – and the oil extracted – by hand, each tree giving just four litres of oil a year. It provides a steady source of income for the Tawira families involved, and they’re consulted on everything from product development to marketing. The Ojon corporation, now part of the Estée Lauder empire, also funds initiatives to help protect the environment in Honduras and preserve the traditional lifestyle. ‘I truly believe I was chosen to go there and create a business for them.

gives top tips on getting best out of your manicure and
pedicure. By Priyanka Bhattacharya (Beauty Magazine)

Moisturise often:
It is important to use hand creams to rehydrate your hands after every wash. It is more important if you have used harsh detergents.
Foot creams help:
Use a rich cream on your feet every night to restore your skin, which suffers through the day. Always wash your feet as you reach home and before applying the lotion. This will also keep your nails free from any infection.

Get antiseptic:
Since humidity can cause infection so use an antiseptic soap or a foot-wash to wash away grime. Also before you wear shoes dust your feet with an anti-fungal power. This will also keep your feet smelling fresh.

Pro care:
Once in 15 days visit a professional manicurist and a pedicurist for complete treatment. Go for hydrating treatments complete with scrub, mask, moisturiser, massage – the works. At Lakmé we have what we call hand and foot facials that replicate the balancing facials that we offer customers.

Facials for hands and feet:
We have various types of hand and foot facials where we pamper your limbs so that you are mentally and physically relaxed. We use ingredients like floral extractions, orchid essential scrub, ceramide creams, and white tea moulding mask to treat different hands and feet problems.

Try reflexology:
When you are feeling exhausted and tired, and have aching limbs then foot reflexology session can be very beneficial. It is a holistic healing technique that improves lymphatic drainage and removes toxins within the body. It is highly relaxing. The moves also leave your hands and feet feeling lighter.

Just push, don’t snip:
When you are getting a pedicure and manicure ensure that the therapist does not cut your cuticles. Instead he or she should push it back and remove only the dead layer. That will avoid infections and keep nails healthy. In case you develop infection, please wait till it gets alright before going in for a professional session.

Care in between:
In between professional treatments do take care of your hands and feet. Besides regular cream massages, also do small at home hand and foot care. Remove nail polish, file and trim your hand and toe nails, then soak them in warm soapy water, add some lemon to it to have a lightening effect. Use a face scrub to slough off dead skin cells, then wash off and massage a good cream. You can also soak your nails in olive oil to strengthen them and give them a natural shine.
